How to pack for a trip to the mountains?
Packing for a trip to the mountains can be a tough nut to crack. While this task is not a problem for experienced hikers, novice climbers will certainly have a lot of questions. Most people going to the mountains do not need specialized equipment or clothing that meets specific requirements. Usually, clothing that protects against moisture, cold, overheating, and other changing weather conditions is sufficient. It is also important to choose the right backpack. If you plan to spend the night outdoors, it is also worth getting a tent, a sleeping mat, a high-quality sleeping bag, and other equipment.
What kind of backpack should you take on a trip to the mountains?
A well-chosen backpack will ensure comfortable walking in the mountains. It should not only be spacious, but also waterproof. Then it will protect the items inside from changing, often capricious, weather conditions. It will ensure comfortable carrying even over longer distances.
A lightweight and small waterproof backpack will work best as a hand luggage backpack when going to thermal baths (and there are plenty of them in our mountains) or walking with Nordic walking poles.
If you plan to stay in shelters or outdoors, avoid uncomfortable suitcases and bags on mountain trips. However, laundry bags, shoe bags, and document pouches may be useful.
What clothes to take to the mountains?
When going to the mountains, it is worth dressing in layers. Therefore, you should stock up on underwear and a thermal T-shirt, a sweatshirt, a jacket, and trekking shoes. Such clothing should not only prevent overheating and protect against adverse weather conditions. It must also protect against gusts of wind. In spring and summer, clothes can be relatively light. The situation is different in autumn and winter, when you also need to take a thicker jacket, sturdy trekking shoes, a hat, a scarf, and gloves on a mountain trip. What clothes we take to the mountains therefore depends on the season and the altitude we plan to climb. Regardless of the season we are preparing for, it is always a good idea to pack your belongings in waterproof bags or backpacks. They will protect the contents even if your luggage gets wet.
How to pack a backpack for the mountains?
If we intend to hike in the mountains with a backpack, we should make sure it is packed properly. Our equipment must be evenly distributed so that it does not weigh down the right or left side too much. We should also have easy access to the things we will need during the day.
Heavier items should be placed close to your back, and lighter items at the bottom and close to the center of the backpack. Items needed during the day should be placed at the top, in pockets or in the outer flap. This arrangement will ensure comfortable walking with a backpack in the mountains and the ability to quickly reach for the necessary clothes or equipment.
