How to pack for a cycling trip?

A bike trip is a great way to spend your free time on warmer days. Less experienced cyclists opt for trips lasting several hours. Experienced cyclists, on the other hand, choose weekend or even multi-day trips. However, each of these trips requires preparation, which includes packing the necessary items. So what should you pack for a cycling trip and what equipment should you take with you?

Bags, backpacks, and panniers – what to choose?

For a shorter bike trip, it is worth taking a small backpack. It will hold drinks, food, water bottles, sunglasses, a smartphone, and documents.

Longer bike trips are more challenging. Here, cyclists often choose panniers or bags. The longer the trip, the more things you will need. However, do not overdo it – luggage that is too heavy and too large can be a considerable hindrance.

Both bags and backpacks should be waterproof. In addition, it is worth choosing models that are comfortable to carry. Thanks to these features, your luggage will be less exposed to adverse weather conditions.

Cases and covers for cycling trips

Nowadays, many people cannot imagine going on a trip without being able to use their cell phone, navigation device, or tablet. For them, waterproof covers and cases may prove to be an important piece of equipment. They will protect electronic devices from rain. They will also provide greater protection against mechanical damage. Thanks to this, even a serious fall does not have to mean a broken smartphone.

What should you take with you on a bike trip?

A bike trip lasting several days or more involves taking more luggage. However, it is worth packing sensibly so as not to overdo it.

You should take clothes appropriate for the current season and expected weather. However, it is worth remembering that the weather is changeable. You will usually need accessories to protect you from the sun – scarves, baseball caps, or sunglasses. During a longer trip, cosmetics and toiletries will also be necessary. If you plan to sleep outdoors, you will need a tent, a sleeping pad, and a sleeping bag.

A longer bike trip also involves the risk of bike breakdowns. It is therefore necessary to take additional tools and accessories, such as spare patches and inner tubes, a tire lever, a pump, a set of wrenches, a brake cable, chain oil, etc. If there are more participants in the trip, it is a good idea to divide the tools for repairing bicycles during the trip among yourselves. Their absence may be the reason for ending the entire trip or causing unnecessary stress.

Remember to think about your safety and get a helmet to protect your head in case of an accident.
